Community Projects

The Garden Club of Houston contributes in many ways to the Houston community. Members donate their time and effort, and the club donates financially with funds raised from the annual Bulb & Plant Mart and the biennial Florescence

To celebrate the Garden Club of America’s 2013 Centennial, the Garden Club of Houston has issued its Great Small Trees for Houston brochure for use by public entities, developers, and citizens.  We are creating demonstration plantings using these trees along Houston’s signature waterway, Buffalo Bayou, beginning in 2009 and extending until 2013.  For more information, click here.

The Hospice at the Texas Medical Center - Club Members oversee the planting and maintenance of the gardens at the Medical Center Hospice which is a peaceful outdoor retreat for hospice residents and workers.

Medical Center Park - GCH provided support for the initial planning and building of the Medical Center Park. Members are involved in its continued maintenance, providing a green space for patients and hospital workers in the Medical Center.  Click here for a picture of the Garden.
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston - The Garden Club of Houston has been caring for the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) gardens for 75 years.  In 1931, we sponsored our first House and Garden Pilgrimage.  Two gardens were presented to the public for an admission fee of twenty-five cents.  Proceeds were used for designing and planting the MFAH grounds.  Funds from our money raising activities continue to maintain the grounds and gardens and to provide plants and flowers within the Museum as well as flower arrangements for exhibition openings.  GCH and MFAH also partner to produce Florescence, a bi-annual Garden Club of America Major Flower Show.
