The GCH Bulb & Plant Mart began on the steps of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston 84 years ago. Members sold bulbs and plants grown from their own gardens. Today, the Mart offers top-quality bulbs from the best growers around the United States and abroad. Examples of bulbs offered for sale include Amaryllis, Anemones, Crocuses, Daffodils, Freesias, Hyacinths, Irises, Ranunculi, and varieties of Tulips and Watsonias.
Additionally, Garden Club of Houston volunteers grow true native plants grown from seed. We are selling these often hard to find natives in six plant collections, one each of six different species. These plant collections will include plants with different bloom times, color, and shape to support more native birds, insects, bees, and butterflies. Our native plant prices beat most retail outlets plus all Pre-Order Sales are Tax Free! And our net profits are given back to community gardens, public green spaces, school gardens, etc.
Experienced and beginning gardeners alike will find an expanded collection of hard-to-find and unusual Crinums, Daylilies, Gingers, perennials, shrubs, vines, herbs and citrus plants, including exclusive offerings grown specifically for the Mart from the gardens of GCH members. The Plants that Merit Attention booth will be featured on Saturday morning and will offer noteworthy selections collected specifically for the Mart. Additional special exhibits will include the live butterfly tent from The Museum of Natural Science Cockrell Butterfly Center. The GCH Conservation Booth will feature a variety of native and drought tolerant plants curated by experts in ecological conservation and education.
Proceeds from the Bulb and Plant Mart are used for the purposes of stimulating the interest in and knowledge of gardening, enhancing the beauty of our community, and protecting and restoring our fragile ecosystem. Our ongoing projects and the recipients of previous Community Contribution Grants can be found on our Community page.
