Eastern Redbud – Cercis canadensis
A beloved native tree and one of the very first to bloom each spring! Before its heart-shaped leaves even emerge, the Eastern Redbud covers its bare branches in clusters of small, pea-like purplish-pink flowers, creating a stunning early-season display. It typically grows 20′-30′ tall with a graceful, spreading, umbrella-like crown, making it a lovely specimen or understory tree. Its heart-shaped leaves turn soft yellow in fall. Easy to grow and low maintenance, it does best in medium moisture, well-drained soil with full sun to part shade. A wonderful nectar source for early pollinators and songbirds alike!
